After years of planning and countless debates on what to do with the Dock in Davenport, Iowa, demolition work was set to begin.
On Monday, October 12, 2015, crews were expected to start bringing in equipment and setting up fences at the site in preparation of the demolition, according to a spokesperson from the City of Davenport.
It has been several years since city leaders in Davenport started mulling around the idea of re-purposing the old restaurant. Back in 2012, Raufeilsen Development Company proposed the idea of building a four-story complex in place of the flood-damaged building. The proposal was for an elevated structure with parking on the first floor, restaurants, a banquet hall, and potentially a spa and health center on the second, third and fourth floor.
Plans continued to expand, but construction delays eventually caused city leaders to terminate the development in July of 2015.
After the redevelopment plans were pulled, the Davenport Levee Improvement Commission said they wanted to see a situation where businesses are constructed, all while maintaining access to the riverfront.
The Dock has been vacant since 2003.
