The City of Davenport announced that The Dock restaurant demolition has begun.
After working on set up and preparations, crews began the demolition Wednesday, October 14, 2015.
Talks about what to do with the former restaurant started years before the demolition. Back in 2012, Raufeilsen Development Company proposed the idea of building a four-story complex in place of the flood-damaged building. The proposal was for an elevated structure with parking on the first floor, restaurants, a banquet hall, and potentially a spa and health center on the second, third and fourth floor.
Plans continued to expand, but construction delays eventually caused city leaders to terminate the development in July of 2015.
After the redevelopment plans were pulled, the Davenport Levee Improvement Commission said they wanted to see a businesses move in, and maintain the riverfront for residents to enjoy.
The Dock has been vacant since 2003.
