DAVENPORT, Iowa — A man facing charges related to sex abuse is now facing additional charges from two incidents that happened in May of 2012.

John Benavidez, age 34, was already in custody in the Scott County Jail after being accused of assaulting a female officer participating in an undercover investigation, previous reports indicate.  The investigation was in June of 2016, and Benavidez was charged with intent to commit sexual abuse, interference with official acts, and drug possession. The incident reportedly happened in the 2300 block of West 3rd Street.

Later that month, police said they were investigating three similar incidents that happened in April and May along Devil's Glen Road. On Wednesday, June 29, police charged Benavidez with three additional counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

The latest charges stem from two separate incidents dating back to May 27, 2012.   On August 3, 2016 Benavidez was charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and second degree sex abuse in relation to those 2012 incidents.

Police said they could not release any additional information "as to not jeopardize these investigations."  Benavidez was still in custody in the Scott County Jail.

Jail records show that Benavidez is being held on three separate bond amounts adding up to $49,000.
