Man accused of groping women in Davenport also charged in Bettendorf

Bettendorf police say they charged Benavidez on Wednesday, June 29, with three additional counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — A man arrested and accused of groping women in Davenport has been charged for more incidents in Bettendorf, police say.

John Benavidez, 34, was arrested June 16 during an undercover investigation by the Davenport police. A female officer was assaulted near the 2300 block of West 3rd Street. Benavidez was charged with the intent to commit sexual abuse, interference with official acts, and drug possession.  He was taken to the Scott County Jail and held on $20,000 bond.

Bettendorf police continued investigating into three similar incidents that happened in April and May along Devil’s Glen Road. Bettendorf police say they charged Benavidez on Wednesday, June 29, with three additional counts of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and an additional $2,000 cash bond.

Benavidez has been in the Scott County Jail since his arrest earlier this month.
