The group Bridging the Gap is holding another Stand Down for Homeless Veterans event on Thursday, February 19, 2015 in Davenport.
Thursday's event will be much like the one they held five months ago at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island. Veterans can get a free meal and warm place to stay at night. Organizers say that could be critical to keeping homeless veterans safe, especially considering Thursday's forecast. More than 50 different agencies were at September's event to give things like housing, education, and medical help.
"It's opened up a lot of doors for me because there are options that I didn't even know were available," Veteran Earl Albrecht said in September of 2014. "There is a lot of stuff that's available, once you find out about it."
Thursday's event started at 9 a.m. at the American Legion Post at 702 W. 35th Street in Davenport.
