The group Bridging the Gap is putting on the 15th annual Stand Down for Veterans event on Friday, September 19, 2014 and Saturday, September 20, 2014.
About 30 vets stayed overnight at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island Thursday. That's when organizers started preparing for the event. Friday's gathering is much like the one that happened two years ago.
Friday and Saturday, homeless vets can get the services that they need, to help them out. That includes food, clothing, medical aid, and a place to sleep. Friday, there will also be access to more than 50 agencies to help the vets get back on their feet.
"Do they have employment? Do they have the medical care and the psychological care that they may need? So we're here to try to encourage the population that these folks need that too after they get home," Organizer Mike Malmstrom said.
Vets who are interested in registering can go to the expo from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday. Vets must register during that time period to use the program's services.
