Officials double checking Nov. 7 election results through statewide audit

Officials will hand count the unofficial results and compare them to the machine count of the same ballots.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — UPDATE: On Thursday, Nov. 9, Scott County Auditor Kerri Tompkins announced that the post-election audit confirmed the election results. The ballots were hand-counter by a board of three election officials and compared to a machine count of the same ballots, which confirmed the vote totals were the same.

Now that voters have cast their ballots for the Nov. 7 election, those results head to county auditors to become certified.

Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, the Scott County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Kerri Tompkins office will perform an audit. Officials will hand count the unofficial results and compare them to the machine count of the same ballots.

The Iowa Secretary of State's Office randomly selects one race and precinct from each of Iowa's 99 counties for an audit. In past years, the measure typically is done by the end of the day. Last year's election audit matched 100%.
