DAVENPORT, Iowa — If you have leftover Halloween candy you’re looking to get rid of, we have a solution that also helps the troops serving our country.
Don’t let the candy go to waste! The Cities Private Wealth Group, located at 4840 Utica Ridge Rd in Davenport, is collecting leftover Halloween Candy, which will then be shipped to soldiers all around the world.
"Even if it isn't here locally. Like I said, we hope that candy makes its way back here to Iowa to whether it's for the troops or the veterans," Operations and Marketing Manager at The Cities Private Wealth Group Courtney O'Connor said.
The Quad Cities group is helping Texas non-profit Soldiers’ Angels, that supports the military, veterans and their families. The Cities Private Wealth Group will ship all the candy they collect to Soldiers’ Angels. It’s part of the yearly program Treats for Troops, which The Cities has been working with for three years now.
Last year, the company collected over 400 pounds of candy, and this year, they’re hoping to gather 500 pounds.
"Individuals just from the community, family members, I have neighbors who drop off their excess candy on my front porch," O'Connor said. "We've had churches and other local nonprofits drop them off. So just getting the word out there, it's really important to us knowing that we're here."
They will be collecting candy from Wednesday, Nov. 1 until Wed., Nov. 15. The Cities is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"I think it's just an extra way for them to know that, you know, we think of them," O'Connor said. "And we want them to enjoy sweet, sweet treats from home too."
