ELIZABETH, Ill. — An Illinois hunter died from severe injuries after falling from a tree Sunday evening, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office.

On Oct. 30 at about 7:16 p.m., the county dispatch center received a call reporting that a hunter was missing on a property in the 8300 block of S. Massbach Road in rural Elizabeth.

After arriving, deputies learned that the hunter, identified as 66-year-old Aurora man Russell Ory, had not been seen since about 4 p.m.

A K9 unit managed to track down Ory, finding him below a tree stand with severe injuries after he apparently fell from the tree. He became unresponsive shortly after.

Deputies immediately began life-saving care for Ory before EMS could arrive. He was later pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
