A joint funeral will be held for a father and son killed in a motorcycle accident in Colona.
Scott Teerlinck and his ten year old son, Luke, died after police say an 81-year-old driver pulled out in front of their motorcycle.
Teerlinck worked for the Transportation Security Administration the past eleven years. He was based out of the Quad City International Airport in Moline.
"We've provided some counselors for our workforce. It's a significant loss to our family. Scott was more than a colleague, he was a friend and we're going to miss him," said David Dailey, Federal Security Director for downstate Illinois and Teerlinck's boss.
In addition to grief counselors, the TSA is sending its honor guard to the funeral Thursday, June 20.
"It will conduct a salute to Scott for his service to the country," Dailey said.
"Scott was a guy who loved life, an avid motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding his Harley, loved taking his son out," Dailey said.
Teerlinck started as a TSA screener at the airport and worked his way up to a communications specialist who trained others on airport systems all around the country.
"During a crisis or catastrophe, we won't have our routine forms of communication available to us and Scott was an expert in providing training on satellite communication and high frequency radio," Dailey said.
His job required a lot of travel.
"He shared that his time with his son and his daughter and his wife, Jill, were the most precious times" Dailey said. "I was at the hospital with Jill. Her strength has provided comfort to me," he said.
Luke Teerlinck had just finished fourth grade in Geneseo, and according to his obituary, helped save lives through organ donation.
The driver of the car, Joyce Firth of Colona, was ticketed for making an improper turn.
