DAVENPORT, Iowa - One of the busiest roads in the Quad Cities will be down to two lanes in the coming weeks, when work starts on Brady Street.
Some business owners are already dreading it after seeing last year's construction on Harrison Street.
Last year Harrison Street in Davenport was closed to be resurfaced and business owners on that street say they took a financial hit.
However, the city says they learned a lot from the Harrison Street construction, so this time they're taking a different approach.
Crews will work on sanitary and storm sewer lines this summer for the first phase of the project. For the second phase Brady Street will be resurfaced between River Drive and Lombard Street.
The city is going to keep two lanes northbound on Brady Street opened at all times, hoping to ease some of the construction pain for business owners.
Business owner Mary Augustine hopes history doesn't repeat itself, "I'm hoping things will be better this time."
Augustine is hoping her business, Neat Stuff on Brady Street, won't feel as much of an impact from the construction.
"I'm hoping it will be run more smoothly," said Augustine.
On Wednesday, April 27th, Davenport city council will vote on a contractor for the project.
The entire project is expected to be complete in two years. The city says this construction season should not affect the Bix 7 that runs up and down Brady Street.
