A retired Moline teacher has been found not guilty of raping a student in 2010.

It took a jury just over an hour Thursday to find Henry Pawlus not guilty on both counts of criminal sexual assault.

Pawlus was accused of sexually assaulting an 8th grade student in a closet at Wilson Middle School in 2010 while she was working on an after-school project.

During the trial Wednesday, Dr. Robert Milas said he believes Pawlus would not have been physically able to attack the girl because he is too weak and impotent.

“The patient told me he’s been impotent for 20 years.  The gentleman has significant cardiac disease, diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and impotence. I cannot imagine he would have the strength to do that. It’s out of my realm of credibility,” Milas said.

“I can’t categorically say that he did not do that, but I would describe it as extraordinarily unlikely,” he said. “Almost a miracle,” he added.
