A Rock Island man was accused of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a man in Davenport, Iowa.

Lewis Woodson, 19, of Quincy, Illinois, died after he showed up at a local hospital around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2015.  Police determined Woodson was shot near Brady Mart, in the 3100 block of Brady Street, in Davenport.

“Acting on information gathered through detective work and ongoing surveillance, police arrested Juwan Johnson, 18, of Rock Island,” said a statement from the Davenport Police Department.

The incident is part of a recent string of shootings and shots fired calls reported in Davenport.

Johnson was charged with first-degree murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, the statement said.  Johnson was held without bond in the Rock Island County Jail, while he awaited extradition to face the charges in Iowa.

“We aren’t done by any means,” said Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski, as he reiterated his department’s determination to solve and end the recent shootings.  Police have continually reminded residents the incidents were ‘target specific.’

“The arrests made over the past week should send the message that those involved in violence and gun crime will be found, caught and face consequences,” Sikorski said.

Johnson is the ninth person arrested in connection with the Davenport shootings.  Joshua Brewer, 18, was arrested Monday, September 14, 2015; he was charged in connection with a shooting that left two people injured.  Alexandra Kane, 21, was charged with being an accessory after the fact.  Three people were arrested in connection with shots fired at the Kwik Shop in the 300 block of West Locust Street, and three others were arrested September 10 in connection with a shots fired incident in the 2800 block of Brady Street.
