BETTENDORF, Iowa - With high temperatures come serious dangers for pets that are out and about with their owners. That's why when K & K Hardware made an effort to help animals avoid being left in the car and forgotten about, the community noticed.

The local hardware store placed a sign in the store's window that read, "Its hot! Your dog is welcome inside."

On Saturday, MC Trafford posted a photo of the sign onto Facebook. Since then the post has been shared almost 900 times.

"...They have my business that's for sure!" said Trafford in the photo's caption.

An employee at K&K Hardware said that this invitation to pets is a long-standing tradition. He said it is a way to provide customer service and ensure that the shoppers aren't discourage from going in and shopping when their pets are in the car with them.

K&K Hardware management said that they considered adding water dishes and food to accommodate the pets, but after talking with a local veterinarian who advised the possibility of animals spreading diseases, they decided not to add the dishes.

They are still considering other ways to help accommodate shoppers and pets.

Other businesses, such as Home Depot, allow pet owners to bring in their dogs to help avoid them being left in cars during extreme heat as well.
