Hillsdale, Illinois Village Clerk indicted

County leaders planned to hold a press conference about an investigation in Hillsdale, Illinois.

The Village Clerk in Hillsdale, Illinois, Jane Lundquist, has been indicted on two counts of official misconduct, according to Rock Island County Sheriff Gerry Bustos.

Bustos and States Attorney John McGehee held a conference to update the public on what happened with an investigation into the village's finances.

During the conference Tuesday, March 29, 2016, McGehee said after presenting evidence to a grand jury, they decided to indict Lundquist.

In late 2015 it was reported that the Village of Hillsdale was considering filing for bankruptcy.

"There's always a concern between cutting expenses and cutting services," Hillsdale's Village Attorney Virgil Thurman previously said.  "Nobody wants services cut but everybody wants expenses cut. So they're walking a thin line on trying to accomplish both at this time."  Bankruptcy was considered a last resort, according to Thurman.

At the same time, the village clerk was being investigated regarding sanitation finances.

At Tuesday's conference, Bustos said that Lundquist turned herself in to the Rock Island County Jail on Monday evening where she posted bond and was released about 30 minutes later.

McGehee said Lundquist will get court dates for a hearing and the matter will move either to a jury trial or a bench trial, depending on her preferences.
