Flood warnings remained in effect for area rivers as water levels slowly started to recede after the July 4 holiday weekend.
Flood warnings were still in effect for the Mississippi, Rock, Wapsipinicon, Cedar and Iowa rivers in our area.
The Wapsi was expected to fall below flood stage Monday, July 7 at Anamosa Shaw Road. The Wapsi was steady at 12.8 feet Monday with major flooding at DeWitt 4S, and the water was expected to fall below flood stage Saturday, July 12.
The Rock River was expected to fall below flood stage by Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Joslin and at Moline, where minor flooding was occurring.
The Iowa River was more than five feet above flood stage Monday, July 7 at Columbus Junction. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning there until Friday evening, July 11 when the river was forecast to fall below flood stage.
Water levels along the Mississippi River were expected to take most of the week to recede. Water levels were falling at Dubuque and Camanche, where moderate flooding was reported after the river crested at both of those locations Thursday, July 3, 2014. The Mississippi crested at 14.45 feet Friday, July 4 at LeClaire. The river was still more than five feet above flood stage at Rock Island and Illinois City, and more than seven feet above flood stage at Muscatine. The river level was falling as major flooding continued along the Mississippi south past Burlington.
The Mississippi River was expected to fall below flood stage at Fulton by Sunday, July 13.
