Teen accused of starting Muscatine apartment fire

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a Muscatine apartment fire.

The Muscatine Journal reported that a 16-year-old was accused of breaking into a home on Pine Street and starting a fire using gasoline in the early morning hours of April 10, 2014. The teen was arrested for arson and burglary.

According to the report, a pregnant woman had been in bed sleeping, but was able to escape unharmed and call 911.

Previous reports indicate that a firefighter suffered a minor injury battling the fire that day. The firefighter was assessed on scene and no treatment or hospitalization was required.

The fire caused moderate to major damage to the building, including structural damage.
