One firefighter sustained a minor injury battling a blaze at a two-unit apartment building in Muscatine.

The one resident who was home at the time of the fire on Pine Street was able to escape before calling 911. Crews were called to the fire on Thursday, April 10, 2014 around 2:15 a.m.

A spokesperson from the Muscatine Fire Department said smoke could be seen from the basement. Fire spread to the rest of the building because of “the location and extent of the fire” and “limited access and construction features.” The fire was under control by 4 a.m.

The only reported injury was a minor injury sustained by a firefighter. Paramedics assessed the firefighter on scene and no treatment or hospitalization was required.

The building sustained moderate to major damage including structural damage. There was no damage estimate available. Crews were not sure where the fire started or what caused it.
