Despite the freezing temperatures, the Chicago Cubs and the Quad City River Bandits are gearing up for the 2014 baseball season.

Thursday, February 27th, 2014, the Cubs play their first spring training game of the season in Arizona. Thursday, the Quad City River Bandits also announced they are expanding the geographical area of their scholarship program with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend.

This season, the River Bandits are putting in a ferris wheel behind the left field wall. That should be complete by early May of 2014. Thursday, the field was mostly covered in snow. The Bandits are hoping that's not the case in just five weeks.

The first game for the River Bandits will be Thursday, April 3rd at Modern Woodmen Park. The first game for the Chicago Cubs and Cardinals is Monday, March 31st, but both teams play on the road.
