Workers from AAA project that there will be fewer people both on the roads and in the air for Thanksgiving weekend, starting Wednesday, November 27th, 2013.
AAA expects about 43 million Americans to travel for the 2013 Thanksgiving weekend. Those numbers include people that fly and drive. The 43 million Americans is about a 1.5% drop in the amount of people compared to last year, according to AAA. About 39 million people are expected to drive this year, while 4 million will fly.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year, and gas prices could be at a three-year low for this time. The American Red Cross is offering safety tips for those of you that are traveling too.
Airlines like Delta, United, and US Airways are waiving a customer's change fee if they've been affected by this week's Nor'easter. The Quad City International Airport serves American, Delta, United, and Allegiant Airlines. As of 11:15 Wednesday morning, the Quad City Airport had just two delays. Neither one of them involved the weather to the east.
The Iowa State Patrol will also be increasing their patrols through December 1st, 2013. There will be extra county and city officers on the roads too.
