Jason Fechner anchors News 8 at 5:00, 6:00, 6:30 & 10:00 Monday through Friday. He also interacts with viewers 24/7 through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, and can be heard each morning on B100 from 6 – 10 a.m.!

Before joining WQAD, Jason worked upriver at WXOW, the ABC-affiliate in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He’d previously worked in Washington, D.C., where he had covered Capitol Hill for several television and radio affiliates as he completed his graduate work.

Originally from Park Ridge, Illinois, Jason studied political science and business at Valparaiso University. It was there he got his start in broadcasting, co-hosting a popular college radio show called “The Rootdown.” After graduating and while working in Chicago, he began to volunteer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was asked to host a bingo show for patients on closed-circuit TV and spend time with patients afterwards. One of them challenged him to look into a full-time career in TV, which lead Jason to earn his master’s from Northwestern University and the Medill School of Journalism.

Anchor of the Associated Press’s Best Newscast, Jason loves to share the unique opportunities he gets with viewers, both through the stories themselves and also through social media. From his trip to the Middle East and Egypt with U.S. troops, to a chance to play basketball with the Harlem Globetrotters, to a record-breaking 24 hour stint ringing a bell for The Salvation Army, Jason’s been grateful for every moment since deciding to become a journalist, and for a chance to work with some wonderful people along the way…

If you have any story ideas for Jason or just want to get his insights into Bruce Springsteen, American-made cars, the Chicago Cubs and Bears, his cancer work, his kayak trips or to get his epic baby back rib chili recipe, please drop a him a line anytime at Jason.Fechner@WQAD.com or hit him up on…
