Archived Blog: Winter weather in the Quad Cities area - January 1st

A Winter Weather Advisory and a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of the Quad Cities region from 6 am Friday until midnight Saturday morning.  

According to the National Weather Service, a wintry mix started spreading northward, and was expected to change over to freezing rain.

Travel conditions will be impacted, becoming hazardous as precipitation becomes freezing rain.

The counties impacted by the Winter Storm Warning include: Bureau, Henderson, Henry (IL), Mercer, and Warren as well as Des Moines, Henry (IA), and Louisa.  The counties impacted by the Winter Weather Advisory include Clinton, Muscatine, Rock Island, Scott, and Whiteside. 

Knox County is under an ice storm warning.  According to the National Weather Service, "significant icing" is expected, potentially accumulating between 1 and 2 inches.

"The mixed precipitation will lift northward across the area by mid-morning and continue into this evening," said the National Weather Service.
