Storms, much-needed rain forecasted to move into the Quad Cities region Thursday night

The last time the Quad Cities had a quarter-of-an-inch of rain or more in one sitting was Aug. 30, Storm Track 8 Meteorologist Andrew Stutzke said.

MOLINE, Ill. — Some much-needed rain is set to move into the News 8 viewing region Thursday evening into early Friday morning.

Right now, the chance for severe weather remains marginal at a level 1 out of 5 risk but that could get upgraded to a 2 out of 5, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities. Isolated to scattered severe storms are possible.

The timing for these storms is between 7 p.m. and midnight. Primary hazards include large hail, strong downpours and lightning. Gusty winds are also possible but are a lower threat.

Widespread rainfall of half-an-inch to one-and-a-half inches is possible. The last time the Quad Cities had a quarter-of-an-inch of rain or more in one sitting was Aug. 30, Storm Track 8 Meteorologist Andrew Stutzke said. NWS QC said the dry soil should soak up the rain efficiently but there could be brief periods of rain pooling on roadways and in parking lots.
