MOLINE, Ill. — The Storm Track 8 team is issuing a Weather Impact Alert for the morning of Thursday, Dec. 12 due to bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills as low as -20 degrees.

The strongest surge of Arctic air so far this season is expected to arrive late Wednesday into Thursday morning. As temperatures drop well into the single digits Thursday morning, biting cold wind chills are likely dropping to as low as -20° at times.

Frostbite can occur in less than 45 minutes in these conditions, requiring immediate medical attention. Anyone who needs to be outside for a lengthy period should dress in layers and cover up as much exposed skin as possible to avoid frostbite.

When will the weather be most severe?

The Weather Impact will be in effect starting at Midnight through 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
