MOLINE, Ill. — The Storm Track 8 team is issuing a Weather Impact Alert for Wednesday evening due to forecasted snow showers that could impact visibility.
The Weather Impact Alert is in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20. Snow showers are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon and into the evening hours. While accumulation will be low, the showers could create a quick dusting on roadways and make them slick.
In addition, the National Weather Service is predicting wind gusts up to 40 mph. Combined with falling snow, this could reduce visibility to half a mile or less.
This is the first expected snowfall of the season, meaning drivers are not yet accustomed to driving on potentially slick roadways, especially bridges and overpasses. If you are planning to travel or drive in these conditions, be sure to take it slow and use your headlights. Leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. Prepare for slick conditions.
There is a small possibility that a rare snow squall warning may be issued with these snow showers, depending on intensity. A snow squall warning is issued when a short-lived burst of heavy snowfall leads to a quick reduction in visibility that can cause whiteout conditions. They usually last an hour or so depending on the situation.
