MOLINE, Ill — Another Weather Impact Alert has been issued due to severe storm potential overnight. The News 8 viewing region sits at a level 2 out of 5 threat for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service Quad Cities. A level 3 out of 5 risk is in effect towards central Iowa.
The storms are set to enter the Iowa side region between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 2 a.m. Thursday and start leaving our Illinois hometowns between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
Severe threats include strong winds that could reach 60-70 mph, frequent lightning and heavy rains with the potential for flash flooding.
Previous Weather Impact Alert from Tuesday:
A very challenging forecast is on our plate as we go through the rest of the day, and nighttime hours.
Another round of storms located just south of the Quad Cities has taken the same path as the early Tuesday morning event that produced some extreme wind gusts and heavy rain in parts of southeast Iowa and western Illinois. We could potentially see a couple of more waves later Tuesday night which could impact parts or most of the area during this period. With no trigger such as an area of low pressure or strong front, forecasting storm development and its track makes it quite a challenge. A Storm Track 8 Weather Impact Alert will be in place overnight.
