MOLINE, Ill. — The Storm Track 8 Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert Day for Thursday, Aug. 15, with severe storms forecasted for Thursday evening.
Stray showers and possible thunderstorms are forecasted to roll through the Quad Cities region Wednesday evening before more widespread coverage and thunderstorms arrive during the Thursday morning commute. The National Weather Service has issued a threat level of 1 out of 5, indicating a marginal risk for severe weather Wednesday evening in most of southeastern Iowa and portions of western Illinois.
A final wave of showers and thunderstorms is forecasted to arrive later Thursday afternoon and into the evening hours. A Weather Impact Alert has been issued for Thursday afternoon and evening, with the main threat being strong thunderstorms, wind gusts, and hail. An isolated tornado can't be ruled out.
Most of western Illinois is currently under a threat risk of 2 out of 5, indicating a slight risk for severe storms on Thursday. Most of eastern Iowa is under a threat risk for severe storms of 1 out of 5.
Early rainfall estimates are about an inch.
