MOLINE, Ill. — The Storm Track 8 team is issuing a Weather Impact Alert for Friday night into Saturday morning due to forecasted freezing rain. A separate Weather Impact Alert for bitterly cold temperatures on Thursday morning is still in effect as well.
The new Alert lasts from 9 p.m. Friday night through 6 a.m. Saturday morning. As warmer temperatures move back into the region late Friday night, rain mixed with freezing rain will fall on pavement that will likely still be significantly below freezing. We are expecting some icy roads to develop late Friday evening lasting through the predawn hours of Saturday morning.
Freezing rain coming into contact with frozen pavement could create a thin layer of ice, impacting travel. Plan to adjust driving times accordingly due to potential icy roads. There could also be some isolated power outages due to a light coating of ice on powerlines and tree limbs.
