MOLINE, Ill. — For each day of the month that the actual temperature is within three degrees of the forecasted high temperature, the Genesius Theatre Foundation will receive $20 from Eriksen Chevrolet in Milan, Illinois. Each night, the WQAD Storm Track 8 team will predict the next day’s high temperature. Then, the forecasted temperatures are compared to the actual temperatures recorded by the National Weather Service.
The Genesius Theatre Foundation is the nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Genesius Guild, an organization that produces a classical theatre experience at Lincoln Park in Rock Island, Illinois, with free admission. Genesius Guild puts on shows for eight weekends every summer including Shakespearean plays and is the only theatre in the United States that produces a classical Greek tragedy every year.
The theatre’s space in Lincoln Park is deteriorating. The concrete, which was poured in the 1930s, is rapidly settling. The Genesius Theatre Foundation has begun a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to rebuild the space and develop a permanent stage, and any donation will go toward that campaign.
