MOLINE, Ill. — Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation
The Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation has been selected as the November recipient of Eriksen Chevrolet’s Three Degree Guarantee.
For each day of the month that the actual temperature is within three degrees of the forecasted high temperature, the Family First Foundation will receive $20 from Eriksen Chevrolet in Milan, Illinois. Each night, the WQAD Storm Track 8 team will predict the next day’s high temperature. Then, the forecasted temperatures will be compared to the actual temperatures recorded by the National Weather Service.
The Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that manages and maintains the Colonel Davenport House on Arsenal Island. Built in 1833, the house is open for guided tours, field trips, group tours and special events. The organization welcomes new volunteers as tour guides and to assist with the gift shop, events and maintenance. Their team of volunteers is currently working on renovating the west wing. In the future, they’d like to add a new shake-shingle roof to this Federal-style home.
The Davenport House reflects the growth in the prosperity of one man, George Davenport. Davenport was a settler, provider, homesteader, businessman and counselor. The house became the center of local commerce, a crossroads for trade in the region.
