ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Editor's note: The video above is from Wednesday, April 5.
Cleanup continues for many Rock Islanders following Tuesday's storms that brought in an EF-1 tornado.
Starting Monday, April 10, the City will be offering free branch and tree debris pickup. The last day for pickup will be on April 21.
Debris should be placed next to the curb of the street they live on — no alley pickups will be done. The City also noted that residents should avoid obstructing the sidewalk or street with their collected debris.
Rock Islanders won't need to stack or bundle their branches, but they should be "as organized as best as possible." Branches do not need to be cut into a certain length.
Garbage routes will be used as a guide for cleanup, starting with the scheduled Monday route. The City says workers will pick up as much as they can during normal working hours and continue the following day where they left off.
Residents with a lot of debris are asked to still place the branches by the curb in time for free pickup. Uprooted tree balls and construction debris will not be picked up during this time.
If a resident doesn't take advantage of this free citywide collection event, they can schedule a free special pickup. Special rules will apply since debris will need to be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled.
The City also wants to remind residents to be cautious of unsolicited tree services and contractors. Do not pay any money until the work done by the contractor is completed.
Residents can verify a contractor's license by calling the Inspections Division at 309-732-2126.
