Mississippi River crests in Rock Island on Monday

After reaching major flood stage on July 2, the Mississippi River is finally cresting in the Quad Cities Monday.

After reaching major flood stage on July 2, the Mississippi River is finally cresting in the Quad Cities Monday. 

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Mississippi River at Rock Island is cresting at 20.1 feet Monday and is forecasted to fall to 19 feet by Monday, July 15. 

Between July 1-8, the river rose from 17.4 feet to 20.1 feet. Major flood stage is classified as 18 feet or higher. The Mississippi River's record height at Rock Island is 22.7 feet.

The flooding has caused several road closures, temporary business closures and business relocations, including the Freight House Farmers Market and Channel Cat Water Taxi. The Red, White and Boom! fireworks show was also rescheduled due to flooding.
