According to the National Weather Service, the Rock River is expected to reach major flooding level sometime in the middle of this week.
As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 18th, the river was measured at 13.45 feet, which is well above the 12 foot requirement to be at flood stage.
The river is expected to rise even further to just over 14 feet at its highest, over the threshold of the major flooding stage.
The forecast expects the river to reach this level as early at Tuesday, May 19th or early Wednesday.
The river level forecasts takes into account the amount of precipitation in the recent past and the precipitation that is expected in the next 24 hours, which, according to weather forecasts, could be a significant amount.
