Tree Limbs Crushes Rock Island Woman's Car
A Rock Island woman woke up Tuesday to her car destroyed after a massive tree limb fell on it during Monday's storms.
Chris Hansen says she thought about moving the car when she figured its been through plenty of storms before.
"Then all of a sudden, we were in the bedroom, watching TV, the lights flickered and the power went out," Hansen said. "Then we heard a crack."
The tree branch crushed the top of the car, smashed down onto the pavement and forced most of the tires to splay outward. Hansen says they're lucky they weren't inside and nobody got hurt.
Hansen says she cried about it and only had two more payments left on it.
Rock Island city crews worked Tuesday morning to get the tree out of the road and the car removed.
Kick Serve Coffee in Moline also had a rough start Tuesday morning. Owner Tom Slininger says he had to dump 40 gallons of milk after his fridges stopped without power.
"Had to wake up early this morning," he says. "Come in and toss a lot of stuff we just got yesterday. So milk, specialty milk. Muffins, cookies. Whipped cream. We had to, unfortunately, get rid of all of that."
Kick Serve couldn't open at its usual time without power. But around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 they were serving up coffee once again.
