You read that headline right. An energy drink was behind the fireball that was spotted over Chicago Monday night. Many people saw the fireball and assumed it was a meteor burning up upon entry to the atmosphere. But some people noted the fireball moving at a slow speed. Usually, meteors light up for only a second or two. This one lasted for a while which made us all skeptical.

On Good Morning Quad Cities Tuesday, we showed an amateur video which showed the fireball. It coincided with many reports of confirmed meteors in the Southeastern United States. We were very careful not to use the meteor term to describe this sight in Chicago. Now we learn it was a stunt by Red Bull energy drink to generate buzz for their upcoming "Art of Can" exhibit coming Friday to Millenium Park.

A released video shows several skydivers jumping out of a plane over Lake Michigan. Large flares were lit as the skydivers descended toward the Lake Michigan shoreline. It occurred shortly after rush-hour.

It sure did generate buzz as news outlets all over the country reported on the fireball and are now talking about the unique attention-getter. What do you think? Chime in on the WQAD Facebook page.
