Blog: Tracking Severe Weather

Several counties in the News 8 viewing area are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 6 p.m. for the following Quad City-area counties: Clinton, Des Moines, Henry (IA), Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Bureau, Carroll, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Henry (IL), Jo Daviess, Knox, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island, Stark, Warren, and Whiteside.

StormTrack 8 has been following the potential for severe weather all morning.

The meteorology team said a strong cold front would be carrying a line of thunderstorms capable of producing winds greater than 60 mph across the area during the afternoon of Tuesday, November 10.  

The storms could include an isolated tornado.

The NWS is reporting winds tearing sheets of metal off of buildings in Carthage.

The National Weather Service advises that the severe thunderstorm warning will remain in effect until 1:45 p.m. for parts of Henry, Des Moines and Lee Counties in Iowa.
