DAVENPORT, Iowa — After weeks of very little rainfall, a strong storm system finally brought much-needed moisture back to the Quad Cities, along with a few severe thunderstorms. One of those storms caused a confirmed tornado that touched down in Scott County Saturday evening, causing damage at the Davenport Municipal Airport.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities say an EF-0 tornado with winds estimated at 75 mph developed 2 miles east of Walcott along I-80 around 10:30 p.m. A tornado warning was issued around the same time for much of Scott County. The tornado tracked east along the interstate causing scattered tree damage and some minor damage to buildings near the Northwest Boulevard exit in Davenport.

The tornado then traveled across the Davenport Municipal Airport damaging canopies, tents, and other equipment, passing just south of the National Weather Service Office, where meteorologists on duty had to temporarily seek shelter.

As the tornado continued east it caused more tree and structure damage along 210th street before lifting east of Jersey Ridge Road around 10:45 p.m.

In total, the tornado traveled nearly 10 miles and had a maximum width of 20 yards. No injuries were reported at the time.

The weather station at the Davenport Airport measured a 70 MPH wind gust around the time the tornado passed through the area.

Localized areas of heavy rain were also reported with the storms that rolled through the region, including more than one inch of rain in parts of Moline and Colona, Illinois. Tree damage was also reported with storms north of the Quad Cities in Dubuque.
