DIXON, Illinois -- A Flash Flood Warning was in effect through 9:15 this morning for Lee County, Illinois.
During the predawn hours of Thursday, heavy rain inundated the city. Law enforcement reported quite a bit of street flooding. In the 900 block of Monroe Avenue, two houses were overcome by at least two feet of moving water. Palmyra Road, north of Illinois Route 2 was flooded as well as Lowell Park Road.
The Emergency Manager reported a flash flood to the National Weather Service saying "the corner of Route 26 and Highway 52 south of downtown has water two feet deep." At least three businesses have been flooded in that area as well.
News 8 viewer Georgia Les Frey reports more than 4 and a half inches of rain falling on Dixon's south side with more than 5 inches falling at Paula Sherman's home on the north side of the city.
As of 8:00am, much of the water has receded. According to Dixon Police, Everett Street, North Court, and Lowell Park Rd. are clear of water with only a small part of Monroe Avenue with standing water.
Any time there's flash flooding, it's always good to remind others it's never safe to drive across a flooded roadway.
