MOLINE, Illinois — The Quad Cities International Airport is gearing up for what's expected to be the busiest holiday travel season in nearly 20 years.
Public Relations and Marketing Manager for the QC Intl. Airport Ashleigh Davis said they're expecting around 3,000 to 4,000 passengers around Thanksgiving.
"The busiest days around the Thanksgiving holiday travel weekend are going to be Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, of course," Davis said.
Davis said if you're able, traveling on a Tuesday instead of Wednesday would help avoid some congestion at airports. The same goes for when you're returning, if you can get back on Monday rather than Sunday, that would also help.
The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, is expected to screen 30 million passengers between Nov. 17 and Nov. 27. AAA projects nearly 50 million people will drive to their destination this Thanksgiving. Davis said despite the surge in passengers, here locally, traveling through the QC Intl. Airport during the holidays should still be a fairly easy experience.
"We're more than prepared for the influx of passengers in the passenger experience shouldn't be too dramatically different, but things may take a little bit longer than the normal," Davis said.
"This is that first kind of big spike that you see heading into the holiday season, " Davis said.
Some advice for travelers, TSA recommends you arrive 2 hours before your scheduled flight. You can also download your airlines app onto your phone. This way you can have your boarding pass, flight information, gate and time changes, and much more to make your travel experience a little easier.
