Historic Hauberg Estate holds open house for newly renovated Carriage House

A lot of work has taken place at the Hauberg Estate, and the estate is holding an open house to show the efforts made to update the property.

The Friends of Hauberg Civic Center Foundation have completed the first of three phases of renovation to the Carriage House, associated with the historic Hauberg Estate.

To commemorate the reopening and updates to the property, they hosted an open house on Friday night from 1 to 7 p.m.

Construction for the original buildings on the property started in 1909 and was completed in 1911. According to the United States Park Service, the buildings were "planned that the building actually wraps around the gradually curving hilltop" - creating a more modern look to the property, while still keeping with similar construction features for the time period.

Later in 1956, the Hauberg family donated the house to the city of Rock Island, and a year later, it officially became the Hauberg Civic Center. It was registered as a historic landmark in 1972.

Property managers for the Hauberg credit these renovations to generous donations from the public, including a $2,000 grant from TEGNA, News 8's parent company.
