Traffic collision on Highway 61 leaves 2 critically injured

MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Thursday morning, July 28 collision on U.S. Highway 61 left two women injured, according to the Muscatine Police Department.

The incident occurred at about 8:45 a.m. Thursday on Highway 61 in Muscatine when a northbound car attempting to make a left turn on University Avenue struck a southbound pickup truck, according to a release from the department.

Police said the driver of the northbound car, 23-year-old Mikayla Healy of Saint Cloud, Minnesota, and her passenger, 22-year-old Allison Magnison of Muscatine, were critically injured. Both were flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals for treatment.

The driver of the southbound truck, 48-year-old Joseph Gadzik of Davenport, was treated and released at the scene of the collision.

Iowa State Patrol is assisting Muscatine police with the investigation into the traffic incident, according to the release.
