COLONA, Ill. — Update:
MidAmerican Energy Company truck was turning right from Aspen Drive onto Poppy Garden Road
The vehicle turned out too far crossing into the oncoming lane, striking a Hundai Sante Fe, pushing it from the roadway and into the ditch where it then hit a power pole. Snapping the polei n half.
The MidAmerican vehicle stopped on impact and the Sante Fe continued into the ditch.
A collision with a MidAmerican Energy Company vehicle that turned out too far into a lane of oncoming traffic led to a car hitting a power pole.
According to a traffic crash report, the MidAmerican vehicle was turning westbound out onto Poppy Garden Road from Aspen Drive around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13. The vehicle "turned out too far, crossing the front driver's side of the front fender into the oncoming lane," and made contact with a black Santa Fe that was headed eastbound.
The crash report said the collision pushed the Santa Fe off the roadway and into a ditch where it then hit a power pole, snapping it in half. The Santa Fe came to rest just southwest of Ash Drive.
The pole landed on the roof of the Santa Fe and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. A News 8 viewer said officials on scene were helping the driver out of the car shortly before 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, MidAmerican Energy was reporting 809 customers in the same area without power. The power was restored before 2 p.m.
