IOWA, USA — Tuesday was a deadly day on Iowa roads as the Iowa State Patrol responded to three fatal crashes across the state.
Two people died and one person was injured in a crash in Wayne County Tuesday morning around 7:30 a.m., Iowa State Patrol said. A pickup truck was traveling east on Highway 2 at County Highway S40 when it crossed the center line and struck a car head-on.
The driver and the passenger in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The two victims have been identified as Larry McDanel, 84, and Linda McDanel, 70, both of Exline.
The driver of the pickup truck was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines.
Another crash occurred in Carroll County, just north of Carroll. Officials responded to the crash located at the intersection of Noble Avenue and 150th Street around 1:50 p.m.
A semi-tractor was driving north on Noble Avenue when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. A pickup truck driving eat on 150th Street struck the driver's side of the semi-tractor.
The pickup driver, 65-year-old Ronald Eischeid of Carroll, died at the scene. The driver of the semi-tractor was uninjured.
Later in the day, Iowa State Patrol officers responded to a fatal crash in Black Hawk County at around 3:50 p.m. A pickup truck was driving east on Tama Road when the driver failed to yield to an oncoming semi-truck.
The semi-truck struck the pickup and then lost control, tipping onto its side and entering the west ditch. The 37-year-old semi driver died, but no identity has been released. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
