During the winter storm that dumped several inches of snow across the Midwest, an Iowa State Patrol car was hit on Interstate 80 and seven plows were hit on highways across the state.

The trooper was hit from behind near Mile Marker 134 while helping with a crash on the north side of Des Moines, according to a post on the Iowa State Patrol's Facebook page.

According to a report by KCRG, the trooper was inside the squad car when the crash happened.

The trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Communities in several counties in eastern Iowa wound up with eight or more inches of snow, with Mahaska County - between Iowa City and Des Moines - got 11 inches in some places.

On Monday, January 25,seven of the Iowa Department of Transportation's plows were hit while clearing the highways during the storm.  They were among hundreds of plows that were running along the highways.

"Luckily there were no injuries, but now we have seven fewer trucks out on the road to get this mess cleaned up," read a post on the Iowa DOT Facebook page.

The post also reminded drivers that plows move much slower than the rest of traffic and the drivers sometimes can't see you if you're too close.

There were no injuries in the crashes.
