No fatalities in I-80 crash Wednesday afternoon near West Branch

Two semi-trucks and one car were involved in the incident.

WEST BRANCH, Iowa — Update as of Thursday evening at 5 p.m.: News 8 reached out to the Iowa State Patrol for information regarding the crash late Wednesday afternoon. 

The crash occurred on the westbound side of I-80 in a construction zone, according to ISP. No fatalities occurred. 

Due to the construction, traffic had to merge over and a semi-truck hit a barrier when trying to make a lane change, according to ISP. The collision sent the semi back, colliding with another car. 

Both vehicles fell into the median ditch. The trailer on the semi was still partially on the road when another semi-truck hit the back of it. According to ISP, all three vehicles caught on fire but did not blow up. 

Update as of Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.: Lanes have been reopened near the crash on I-80 that delayed traffic earlier Wednesday afternoon. No other information has been released at this time.

Travelers heading in both directions on Interstate 80 near West Branch are experiencing delays following a crash Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation's website, those heading eastbound are experiencing a 4-minute delay and those heading westbound are experiencing a 5-minute delay.

The DOT's website doesn't show a detour route anymore.
