SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — In an effort to streamline the accident reporting process, the Illinois State Police (ISP) has created an online Civilian Crash Reporting System (CCRS).

Anyone involved in a single-vehicle crash with no injuries on an Interstate, U.S. or Illinois Route can use the CCRS to report the incident without waiting for a state trooper to respond.

Once the crash report is submitted, you'll be given a unique receipt number and be able to print the completed crash report for insurance purposes. There's a $5 fee associated with obtaining the final approved crash report, which can be paid on ISP's website.

The CCRS not only increases public safety by allowing people to report crashes from a safe place, but it also frees up ISP troopers to respond to higher-priority calls.

“For simple crashes where only one car is involved and no one is injured, the ability to file a report online instead of along the road will make it safer for drivers and our Troopers, and eliminate the need to wait for a Trooper to make the report,” ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly said in a press release.

You can find the digital form on ISP's website here. To navigate from the ISP homepage, go to the Quick Links on the right and find "CRASH REPORTS." At the top of the Crash Reports page, click on the white box that says "COMPLETE A CRASH REPORT ONLINE."

On mobile devices, click on the drop-down menu at the top left of the ISP homepage. Tap "Quick Links," then find "CRASH REPORTS."

The ISP also released a YouTube tutorial on how to fill out CCRS forms:
