I-74 Bridge project is one step closer to completion

Crews installed the final section of the I-74 bridge arch floor on Saturday, July 17. The first section was installed on June 9.

MOLINE, Ill. — The Illinois-bound Interstate 74 Bridge became one step closer to completion when the arch floor was completed.

Crews installed the final section of the I-74 bridge arch floor on Saturday, July 17.  The first section was installed on June 9.

"We are thrilled to reach this major milestone for the project," said George Ryan, I-74 Corridor Manager.

The next step will focus on installing steel for the bike and pedestrian path. Crews will also be preparing the roadway for more concrete.

Before the bridge can open to traffic, crews have to install girders, pour concrete on the bridge deck and pave new lanes on the Bettendorf side. The Moline side is complete.

The project is in Phase 2 of 3, which has included the construction of the bridge from Avenue of the Cities in Moline to Middle Road in Bettendorf.  Phase 2 ends with demolition of the existing I-74 Bridge.
