DAVENPORT, Iowa — Road closures and detours have been a mainstay in downtown Davenport in recent months, but some of them appear to be coming to an end.
As flood waters receded last month, a sinkhole opened up at the intersection of Brady Street and River Drive.
This gape will soon close as crews are wrapping up underground work on the site and will transition to pavement installation in the coming days.
"Based on the DOT specifications for twelve inches of concrete, curing time, and area to be repaved, staff estimates the intersection will not re-open until mid-week the week of June 26," according to Davenport's Communications and Preparedness Manager Robbin Dunn.
Road work continues on the rest of River Drive, as crews are replacing temporary patches from water main breaks. This work is between Warren and Myrtle Streets, and from Marquette to Sturdevant Streets. The stretch between Warren and Myrtle will be head-to-head.
Work began on Monday, June 19, and is expected to be complete by this Monday, June 26.
Main Street between 3rd and 5th streets continues to be closed due to the deadly building collapse. Westbound 4th Street is redirected to Brady Street until further notice. Additional construction updates can be found by clicking/tapping here.
The Quad Cities saw major flooding in the spring, causing Davenport officials to close River Drive on April 21.
