Centennial Bridge work resumes May 1

Drivers can expect delays while traffic is reduced to one lane each way over the Centennial Bridge.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Drivers should expect some delays along the Centennial Bridge starting Monday, May 1.

Crews are completing structural repairs as a part of a $1.5 million dollar project. Crews will start work in the Illinois-bound lanes first. Work will then move to the Iowa-bound lanes in about three weeks.

There will be one lane open in each direction while work happens. Pedestrian traffic across the bridge will not be closed during the repairs. Work is expected to be completed by June 5. This is the second half of a two-year, $1.5 million project to complete structural repairs and bearing replacements.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. The Illinois Department of Transportation says drivers should consider using alternate routes when possible. Illinois DOT urges drivers to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
