ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Travelers heading between Davenport and Rock Island across the Centennial Bridge will need to find an alternate route if they drive across the bridge between 5:30-7:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
That's because the bridge will be completely blocked off to traffic on Tuesday, June 27. Of course, that timeframe can change if the weather doesn't cooperate.
Drivers should avoid the area and find alternate routes during this time. The Illinois Department of Transportation urges drivers to pay attention to their surroundings as they travel through the area, including posted speed limits and minimizing distractions.
White Construction, LLC will be completing the last phase of the two-year, $1.5 million project during that time. Crews will complete structural repairs and bearing replacements to the 80-year-old bridge.
Traffic will reopen once those adjustments are made. Those who walk across the bridge don't have to worry — the pedestrian path will still be open during that time.
The whole project is anticipated to be completed by July 4.
